Thank you to everyone who took part in shaping the future of solid waste services in the County of Brant! The Solids Waste Master Plan was approved in September 2025. More information about the plan can be found at brant.ca/SolidWastePlan.

The County of Brant has begun developing a Solid Waste Management Master Plan, a long-term strategy that will guide how waste is collected, managed, and reduced in our community over the next 25 years.

You're invited to get involved and share your thoughts as we plan for a more sustainable and efficient waste management system that reflects the needs of our growing community.

Why This Matters

Our current waste programs serve thousands of households and businesses across the County but with a growing population, evolving waste regulations, and a stronger focus on environmental responsibility, now is the time to rethink

The County of Brant has begun developing a Solid Waste Management Master Plan, a long-term strategy that will guide how waste is collected, managed, and reduced in our community over the next 25 years.

Why This Matters

Our current waste programs serve thousands of households and businesses across the County but with a growing population, evolving waste regulations, and a stronger focus on environmental responsibility, now is the time to rethink and refresh how we manage our solid waste.

The Solid Waste Management Master Plan will act as a roadmap to guide short-term (now to 2027), medium-term (2027–2040), and long-term (2040 and beyond) waste management decisions. It will help ensure we continue to offer practical and cost-effective services while advancing our environmental goals. This includes exploring new programs and improvements that reduce waste, increase diversion from landfill, and support innovation.

What’s Being Considered

Through this plan, the County will:

  • Assess how our current waste services are working.
  • Explore opportunities to introduce new programs and best practices.
  • Plan for future growth while protecting our environment and community well-being.
  • Incorporate previous feedback, including input gathered during the 2023 Garbage and Recycling Review.

One key change already taking place is the transition of the Blue Box program to producer responsibility. As of January 1, 2025, the County no longer oversees the residential curbside collection of Blue Box materials. It's important to note that this shift was mandated provincially and is not part of the Solid Waste Management Master Plan.
