Key things to know!
As of January 1, 2025, Producers of the materials recycled through the residential Blue Box program will be responsible for running and funding the program.
The Producers will provide the Blue Box program to all residential properties at the same service level as prior to the transition (e.g. weekly curbside collection)
As of January 1, 2025 the County will not be involved in the residential Blue Box program, which will no longer be funded through property taxes.
Potential savings to the overall Solid Waste Operations Budget that result from removal of the Blue Box funding from property taxes will be placed in an Environmental Management reserve that will fund projects or initiatives to benefit the environment. With Council’s approval, these funds may also be used to offset any increased cost of the solid waste contract.
Given these upcoming changes, no Blue Box service options are being considered as part of this Service Review.
