Parks Master Plan
The County of Brant is preparing for the future of parks, recreation, and outdoor spaces with a Parks Master Plan that will guide how these services and spaces grow and improve over the next 15 years.
The draft Parks Master Plan was developed through a thorough review of existing parks, facilities, and recreation programs. Population growth and future community needs were also carefully considered. Feedback gathered during the newly approved Community Services Strategic Plan and Parks and Recreation engagement in 2023 also helped shape the priorities included in this draft plan. We want to host a "learn to play cricket" event in Paris in Aug 2026. We have a volunteer instructor who has the equipment so we just need a level field or a ball diamond to play on. We don't require a formal cricket pitch. The County has informed us that the only area we're permitted to play on is in Onondaga. Paris has a lot of South Asian residents that are newer to the town and we want to create some community by bringing attention to a sport that's popular in India. It seems punitive to only have one area in the County (not close to Paris) where cricket can be played. According to the wording in the draft of the Parks Master Plan:
Family composition of differing cultures impacts the way members may interact with park spaces, which may lead to lower or higher volumes of users in parks.
Building resiliency and flexibility in parks is important to accommodate the various needs of communities. This includes the creation of places for larger gatherings or group celebrations. The provision of flexible playing fields is necessary to accommodate a variety of sports and activities. To help immigrants nurture their sense of place and belonging, it is essential to consider the different needs and preferences of newcomers, such as outdoor spaces to practice cultural activities and celebrations, specific sports, and different types of leisure.
Understanding that Brant county is very large and that certain regions have more populations than others, please reconsider east Brant county. Your plan puts 85% of parks in north Brant and 10% in west Brant. There are 2 in east Brant. Two. And one is essentially just a field. There is also no library, or any other county service. For those of us that live out here, we can’t walk to parks, but it would sure be nice not to have to drive 20min to the closest one. So rather than making sure every resident is walking distance to 5 different parks, can you please put a couple in other areas of the county. Looking forward to your reply.
