What we heard
Thank you to everyone who participated and shared ideas about where new trees should be planted. Engagement showed strong interest from residents like you who care about shade, green spaces, and healthier neighbourhoods. The project page received 214 visits, and 14 contributors suggested 54 locations. Promotion to let residents know about the project included County social media posts, direct emails through Engage Brant and brant news, and posters at community centres.
You identified locations in Paris, Burford, Mount Pleasant, and along key road corridors.
Key themes
• Add shade in parks and playgrounds to support comfort and usability for families.
• Improve streetscapes in newer subdivisions with trees along streets, entrances, and medians.
• Protect waterways by planting trees near the Grand River and Nith River to help stabilize banks.
• Enhance open green spaces, especially along walkways and fields with limited vegetation.
• Strengthen neighbourhood character by creating greener, more walkable community spaces.
Frequently suggested areas
• Rest Acres Road and nearby subdivision streets
• Parks such as Bean Park and Optimist Park and around playground areas
• Riverbanks with visible erosion
• Open spaces between residential blocks
• Entrances to neighbourhoods such as Summerwind Drive
What's next
Your feedback will help staff identify priority planting areas for 2026. Staff will now review all suggested locations, assess feasibility, and align planting plans with the County’s two-year Tree Planting Initiative, supported by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Growing Canada’s Community Canopies program.
This project is now complete. You will soon see “Trees being planted soon” signs placed across the County. These signs will show where new trees are to be planted and will help keep the community informed as planting begins.
Thank you again to everyone who took time to participate and share their ideas.
