Construction on Grand River Street North in Paris has been underway since the summer of 2023. This is a multi year infrastructure project focused on improving underground services, road safety, and long term mobility.

What's been done

Earlier phases of work replaced aging watermain and sanitary sewers between between Trillium Way and Hartley Avenue. These upgrades support current needs and planned growth in the area.

Where work will continue Current and upcoming construction will take place on Grand River Street North between Watts Pond Road and north of Silver Street.

Why it's needed This section of Grand River Street North is expected to see higher traffic volumes as the community grows. The work underway now prepares the corridor for the future while improving safety today.

What to expect

The project will:

  • Build four new roundabouts at Watts Pond Road, Hartley Avenue, Scott Avenue and Trillium Way to improve traffic flow. Roundabouts will have pedestrian controls similar to what was installed on Rest Acres Road last fall.
  • Install storm sewers to manage runoff and reduce flooding
  • Add a multi use path on the west side of the road and a sidewalk on the east side to support walking and cycling
  • Build on earlier watermain and sanitary sewer upgrades completed in previous years
  • New street lights to be installed
  • Road reconstruction including widening from two to four lanes of traffic

Traffic impacts

  • Two way traffic will be maintained in the north south direction
  • Temporary detours will be used during certain phases such as asphalt paving and work at side streets
  • Cross streets affected may include Scott Avenue, Woodslee Avenue, and Hartley Avenue
  • Clear signage will guide drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians

Safety and access for school, residents, and businesses

Special measures will be in place near Paris District High School to support safe walking routes for students. This includes temporary signage and protective mats where needed. Access to homes and businesses will also be maintained throughout construction with clear signage and detour routes available.

Important reminders

The County is working to reduce impacts where possible while keeping people moving safely. Please remember:

Businesses will remain open during construction. Please show your support and shop local.
