  • St. George continues to grow and the existing sewer system has limited capacity.
  • Parts of the system are aging and more difficult to maintain.
  • The upgrade improves reliability for current residents and businesses.
  • Planning infrastructure upgrades now helps avoid emergency repairs and repeated disruption in the future.

This project is about maintaining safe and reliable service for today’s community while responsibly planning for the future.

Funding

The project is funded in part through development charges and a provincial grant. Development charges can help pay for certain infrastructure needed to support growth. Provincial funding supports major infrastructure investment. This approach helps reduce pressure on property taxes and aligns with the County’s broader wastewater system planning.

Thank you for your question and your interest in this project.

The portion of the trunk sewer to be replaced on Hawk St. is largely routed in the north boulevard between the curb and property line, which will impact driveway access for your home as well as the other units with frontage along the north side of Hawk St during construction.

The contractor will be required to maintain driveway access outside of construction working hours, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, however, there will be intermittent periods where driveway access is not possible due to construction activities. When the portion of sewer in front of your home is being replaced, you will temporarily lose access to your driveway for an estimated duration of up to a week. We understand that this will cause inconvenience for you and your neighbours and will aim to minimize this disruption as much as possible through construction sequencing and planning, and will ensure to provide ample notice of the upcoming construction to allow for alternate parking arrangements to be made. When driveway access is lost, the County suggests street parking on either West St, or the south shoulder of Hawk St.

Thank you again for your question, and please reach out with any other questions or concerns.

  • Share I did attend the open house at the arena and thought it was really well done. Here is a suggestion. Perhaps you could post online the part of the development plan that outlines what services will be provided especially around new schools or school upgrades (I don't think St. George German can handle all those new students), new retail and any other new facilities. Thanks for your feedback!

The County is aware that the school board is considering a new school site for St. George as the community grows. Lands for a new school are set aside in the Losani development, however, details of the size and timing for the construction are not yet known.

Specific commercial/retail developments are not determined by the County, but proposed developments are required to comply with the Official Plan designation and Zoning for any given location.

The land uses for the area are laid out in the Official Plan and Zoning By-law:

The mapping shows the land uses for the proposed subdivisions.   The draft approved subdivision plans are also available on the County Active Planning Applications page at https://www.brant.ca/en/planning-and-Development/active-applications.aspx

    We hope this helps!

Thank you for your interest in this project. We appreciate the information you provided about the Day Care operation and the ministry requirements. As part of our construction, we will install a new valve on the watermain in front of your property that will allow your water service to remain in service during any potential watermain breaks within the construction area.  The scope of the sewer upgrades on Beverly St W begin just west of your property, so construction will not directly impact access to your parking lot. Our intention is for the contractor to install the new trunk sewer while maintaining one lane open for traffic as much as possible. However, there will be occasions where a full road closure on Beverly St W is required. We will ensure that you are well informed of any planned road closures and detours in a timely manner to ensure impacted families can plan for the detour route. We invite you (or representatives if you're unable to attend) to join us at our per-construction Open House this Thursday, January 22 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Gaukel Memorial Community Centre to discuss this project with us further and provide valuable feedback that we can incorporate into the construction plans.
