What is a Sport Facility Allocation Policy?

    The County of Brant’s Sports Facility Allocation Policy is a council approved document used to guide Community Services department in ensuring that all County sports facilities, fields, and spaces are shared fairly and used effectively.

    Why is a Sport Facility Allocation Policy needed?

    This policy establishes and clarifies the County’s responsibility for all indoor/outdoor sport facility allocation, facility administration and its commitment to the management of: 

    1. Fiscally responsible sport facility operations
    2. Fair and Equitable allocation of rental spaces
    3. Processing of special event, tournament, and seasonal permits
    4. Safe and accessible service for all
    5. Enhancement of the quality of life for all citizens 

    Will this be a new policy for the County of Brant?

    No. The County of Brant has had a Sport Facility Allocation Policy in place since 2005 with the current version having last been reviewed in 2016. 

    Why is it necessary to review the policy?

    Reviewing and updating a Sports Facility Allocation Policy is necessary to ensure it stays relevant and effective in meeting the evolving needs of both the community and staff. It ensures the definitions, principles and procedures are still relevant and suitable for proper sport facility allocation and facility administration.

    What sport facilities does this apply to?

    The policy applies to all County of Brant owned and operated indoor/outdoor sport facilities, including ice, turf, pool, diamonds, fields, courts, etc. 

    How is priority decided within the current allocation process?

    Within the principles of the current policy, preference is give in the following order after staff have reviewed all requests for space during an allocation period: 

    1. County of Brant Recreation Programs (provided this does not disrupt long time user groups or regular yearly tournaments and special events)
    2. Regular yearly tournaments and/or special events
    3. County of Brant Minor Groups 
    4. Junior Groups
    5. Regional Minor Groups including County of Brant residents (participants must be registered through a minor provincial or national organization)
    6. Adult Groups
    7. Private users
    8. School use
    9. New Organizations/Emerging Sports
