Several new park parcels of land have been acquired by the County of Brant through the development process. As the lands are developed, it is important to name the parks and include them in the Parks Use Bylaw that regulates, protects and governs park operations.

As per the Parks and Recreation Asset Naming Policy, the public is asked to comment and provide suggested names for new parks being developed. The information below details the new areas under consideration.

    Park Location: Between Row Lane/Arlington Parkway - Grandville Subdivision, Immediately to the west of the Vicano development on Rest Acres Rd.

    Address: 16 Arlington Parkway, Paris 

    Proposed Park Name: Juliet Wolverton Park*

    Rational: Juliet and her husband were early Paris settlers who constructed and resided in the Wolverton House on Grand River Street South. Juliet and her husband Asa, took freed slaves into their home as they travelled along the Grand River after being brought into Canada through the underground railroad.

    Park Location: Pinehurst Subdivision, To the west of Fit Effect

    Address: 80 Hartley Avenue, Paris

    Proposed Park Name: Dawdy Park*

    Rational: Wilton Dawdy was a long serving member of the Paris Optimist Club. Wilton was a former co-owner of Paris Sports. Pat Dawdy previously served on the Paris Police Services Committee.

    Park Location: Land located within the Nith Peninsula, west of Lions Park and Penman’s Pass Bridge.  Bordered by the Nith River. Previously privately owned and acquired by the County in 2019 from Losani homes. Mix of Carolinian forest and agricultural lands that will be developed into a subdivision. Informal nature trail network.  Connects to Penman’s Pass and Lions Park.

    Proposed Park Name: Barker’s Bush Park

    Rational: 1840 – Thomas Gadd Severed 75 acres of Land for Daughter Elizabeth Frances Gadd and Husband James Bilton Barker. Barker cobblestone house was built from 1840-1842. The home was recently restored and Barker Street was later named as the town was built. The land is aptly named to represent the Paris settlers who lived in this area.

    Park Location: Pinevest/Losani Rest Acres Rd. Fronting on Rest Acres Rd on the east side, north of the townhouses on Tom Brown Drive.  Access from Lorne Card Drive.

    Address: 98 Lorne Card Drive

    Park Name: Summit Park

    Rational: Elevated location and view from Summit Park extends to County Rd. 35 presently

    Park Location: Mile Hill Subdivision

    Address: 35 Edgar Place

    Park Name: Mile Hill Meadows Park

    Rational: Represents the close proximity to Mile Hill

    Park Location: Scenic Ridge Subdivision. West side of Rest Acres Road. Corner of Scenic Ridge Gate and Doug Foulds Way

    Address: 1 Scenic Ridge Gate

    Park Name: Jay Wells Park

    Rational: Commemorates Jay Wells hockey legacy and community ties.
