What has changed so far

At the March 17, 2026 Administration and Operations Committee meeting, County Council endorsed a new direction for how noise will be regulated, directing staff to move forward with a hybrid model for noise regulation through Report RPT-0110-26.

This approach will use qualitative standards for general noise enforcement which means assessing whether noise is likely to disturb others. It also uses quantitative decibel limits for specific, recurring noise issues such as live music and residential air conditioners.

This model is intended to improve fairness, increase consistency, and support clearer enforcement while recognizing the diverse needs of our growing community.

  • Noise isn't a problem! How about smoke? So many people with fires. There are no alergies & breathing disorders to noise but there is with smoke!!

    JRK asked 24 days ago

Thank you for sharing your concern. We recognize that smoke from recreational fires can have a significant impact on some residents, particularly those with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions.

The County of Brant does have an Open Air Burning Bylaw that regulates recreational fires and includes requirements that residents must follow.

If you are experiencing a negative impact from a recreational fire, we encourage you to contact County of Brant Fire Services at the time the issue is occurring so that the situation can be investigated. You can report the fire by calling dispatch at 519-752-4346, extension 3.

  • Is there a noise bylaw that McDonald’s-King George Road, Brantford has to follow? It is sandwiched between 2 apartment buildings. The night of Tuesday May, 19, 2026 in particular was the most noisy in the last 10 years. They had pressure washers running noisy equipment starting at 11pm and finally ending at 2am. No one in the neighborhood could sleep. Also, they receive shipments 2 mornings every week (Tuesdays and Fridays) so there is no sleeping at those hours (sometimes as early as 5:30 or 6 am). They also have noisy lawn mowing and snow removal. They have crazy, lengthy “celebrations” such as McHappy dad fund raisers and I can’t believe they are allowed to be open 24-7. This encourages “party animals” to party, blast stereos and horns and scream at all hours of the night. They wake us and prevent us from sleeping. McDonald’s is an attractive nuisance for rowdy people and criminals (drugs sales and use). Just horrible.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We understand how disruptive ongoing noise can be, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

The McDonald’s location on King George Road is within the City of Brantford, which is a separate municipality from the County of Brant. As a result, noise complaints and bylaw enforcement for this property are handled by the City of Brantford.

You can find information about the City’s Noise Bylaw, including how to file a complaint, online at Brantford.ca/Bylaw.

  • Why are mufflers systems that are so loud you can hear them from blocks away ? It’s unnecessary and disrespectful. Happens until all hours of the night. Shut it down to restore peace

DeeMSim asked about 1 month ago

Thank you for sharing your concern regarding loud mufflers and vehicle noise in your area.

Noise from vehicles, including excessively loud muffler systems, is regulated under Section 75 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and enforced by the Ontario Provincial Police, rather than the County of Brant Bylaw Enforcement. As such, we recommend contacting the Ontario Provincial Police directly at 1-888-310-1122 to report these concerns and provide specific locations, times, and details to assist with enforcement.

That said, we understand the impact this issue can have on residents’ quality of life, especially during overnight hours. We have noted your concerns and will pass them along to the appropriate partners for awareness.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
