Seniors’ Affordable Housing on High Street

More affordable housing for seniors is coming to St. George.

The County of Brant is working with the Central Ontario Co-operative Housing Federation (COCHF) to develop 35 affordable seniors’ housing units at 50 High Street in St. George.

The first co-operative housing development in the County of Brant, the new building will be located on the vacant land behind the existing Russell Heights seniors’ residence.

About this project
The development will include 35 affordable residential units designed for seniors.
The building will include an elevator to support accessibility and aging in place. It will also be designed to meet high environmental standards, Tier 3 of the National Energy Code for Buildings 2020.
The exterior will complement the existing Russell Heights residence. Landscaping will also be incorporated into the site design to create outdoor space for residents.

  • This is wonderful news. Both my husband and I are seniors and we were wondering if these units are assessible especially no stairs.

    Lisa asked 20 days ago

Thank you for your question. Yes, all units are designed without any stairs inside the apartment itself.

The building has four floors, and all floors can be accessed by elevator. The main entrances and common areas of the building are fully accessible.

In addition, 10 of the 35 units have enhanced accessibility features, such as accessible kitchens and washrooms, lower light switches, wider clearances, and barrier-free balcony access. The remaining units are also designed to allow barrier-free access and easy movement throughout key living spaces, including the kitchen, bedroom, and washroom.
