The County of Brant is inviting the residents of Glen Morris and other surrounding County communities to share their feedback about a potential new Glen Morris Community Centre.

The new centre could include a library and outdoor spaces on the County-owned property at 380 East River Road, once approved by Council. The facility would address accessibility challenges currently faced by the existing community hall and library.

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts through the preliminary Glen Morris Community Centre survey! Between October 29 and November 22, 2024, we heard from over 100 residents about the current state of local facilities and what you'd like to see in the future.

    Here’s what you told us:

    Residents Are Ready for Change

Most survey participants live in Glen Morris—and many have lived here for more than a decade. You told us that while you love your community, the current facilities just aren’t meeting your needs.

    • 77% said the current recreation facilities don’t meet community needs.
    • 90% said they would use a larger facility if one were available.

    What You Want to See

You shared a strong interest in a multi-purpose community hub that brings people together. Here are some of the most requested features:

    • Sports and recreation space (like fitness, pickleball, or youth programs)
    • Gathering space for social events and programs
    • Meeting rooms of various sizes
    • An expanded and accessible library

You also expressed support for outdoor amenities like trails, a neighbourhood park, or space for community gardens.

    Programming Ideas

You’d love to see more programs offered locally, especially for:

    • Children, tweens, and teens
    • Families and older adults
    • Community events like barbecues, movie nights, and workshops

    What You Shared with Us

Your comments painted a clear picture. Many of you want a space that works for all ages and abilities, is easy to access, and reflects the unique charm of Glen Morris. Some residents also raised concerns about preserving the community’s quiet character, suggesting we look at renovation options or take inspiration from nearby community centre models.

    What’s Next

The County is now moving into the next phase of planning for a potential new Glen Morris Community Centre. Before any designs are finalized, more community feedback will be gathered to help guide the development of a high-level concept plan. This concept will include a proposed site layout, types of spaces and programs the centre could offer, and an estimated building size. Once prepared, this early concept will be shared with the public for review and feedback.

To support the planning process, the County will be hiring a professional planning consultant. As part of this work, the consultant will help identify and complete the necessary technical studies, such as agricultural assessment, functional and traffic services assessment and a planning justification report, to assess whether the proposed site is suitable for development. These studies will also support the process of requesting that the land be moved from its current farmland designation into the County’s built-up boundary.

At the same time, the County will also begin exploring possible funding sources to help support the project.

Updates and future engagement opportunities will be shared on this page and through Engage Brant. To stay informed, please subscribe for updates by adding your email in the "Stay Informed" box on this page and clicking ‘Subscribe’.
