Thank you for participating! Here's what we heard and what's next.
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on the Downtown Paris Zoning Survey. We saw strong interest in this project, with about 1,800 visits to the project page and 167 completed surveys.
Your feedback shows how much people care about the future of Downtown Paris. We heard you, and your input is helping shape the direction of this work.
What we heard
Across the survey, a few clear messages stood out.
Protect the character of downtown
You care deeply about the look and feel of Paris. Many of you want to see heritage buildings protected and new development reflect the existing character.
Keep building heights lower
Most responses supported buildings in the 2 to 4 storey range. Some were open to 4 to 6 storeys in certain areas. Taller buildings received little support.
Traffic and congestion are concerns
You told us that traffic flow and access need to be part of the solution. Growth should not make it harder to move through or access downtown.
Make downtown easier to walk and enjoy
There is strong support for a more walkable downtown. You want wider sidewalks, better connections, and more spaces to gather, including patios, public squares, and river access.
Green space and sustainability are priorities
You value trees, green space, and environmentally responsible design. Many of you spoke about the need for better stormwater management and more natural features.
Focus on local needs
You want a downtown that works for residents. This includes a mix of shops, services, and amenities that support everyday life.
What’s next
We are taking a more focused and coordinated approach as this work moves forward.
Based on what we heard, the project scope has been refined to focus on lands where the County has a clear role or interest in future development. This helps ensure we can take meaningful action where it matters most.
At the same time, we are advancing technical studies to help answer key questions you raised, including flooding and traffic. These studies will provide data to support informed decisions.
This work is also being coordinated with two related initiatives:
- The Downtown Paris Master Plan update, which will guide the long term vision for the downtown
- The Community Planning Permit System (CPPS), which will establish updated zoning rules across the County
By aligning these projects, your feedback is being applied both locally in Downtown Paris and more broadly across the County.

What is this about?

What’s Changing?
Area A – Mechanic Street & Broadway Street West
Proposed to increase the maximum building height from five to six storeys and provide specific directions to help future buildings fit in with the surrounding character.

Proposed to restrict residential, allow a parking structure, public park space and seasonal retail or tourism uses. Portions of this area would also be rezoned for natural heritage and flood protection.
