The County of Brant is excited to share the draft concept plan for the future Deer Ridge Park, located at 124 Gort Avenue in the Nith Peninsula Subdivision in Paris.

Although most homes have not yet been built in the surrounding subdivision, the County is planning ahead by creating a vibrant park to help welcome future residents to this new neighbourhood and set the tone for a connected, active, and inclusive community. Situated near Barker’s Bush and Paris Lion’s Park, Deer Ridge Park is designed to offer a fun and accessible outdoor space for all ages to enjoy, now and in the years to come.

This new park is being constructed with funds collected through development charges.

The Draft Concept Plan includes:

  1. Separate junior and senior play areas
  2. A Bankshot Basketball system
  3. A 3m wide lit asphalt pathway
  4. The “Team House” sun shelter with accessible picnic space
  5. Bike racks, benches, waste bins, and armour stone seating
  6. Shade trees, garden beds, and decorative entry features

  • Once again in this County build, build, build in Paris for new people moving in from out of town & have never paid taxes here while the rest of the county gets no new infrastructure. My taxes are huge & my road has no street light poor water containment & my road is falling apart with no new paving or stone chips in 50 years but i will just keep paying for everyone else.

    Thank you for your message. To clarify this project is funded by development charges, which are paid by developers - not existing taxpayers. These funds are used specifically for growth-related infrastructure.

     

    We understand the need for upgrades across the County and use an Asset Management Plan to prioritize improvements based on road condition, safety, and usage. Your feedback has been noted—thank you for reaching out.

  • Do the swings include a wheelchair swing. What makes this playground inclusive? How can a child in a wheelchair play in this park? Can a wheelchair go on play structure?

    This park does not include a wheelchair swing, but Arlington Park (Paris) and Sunny Hill Park (St. George) will both be getting one soon! This park has an inclusive swing seat with harness. 

    There is ramped access to each play area with many ground level play elements (interactive and sensory panels, play counters, play forts, etc.). A wheelchair cannot go on the play structure itself, but there is a transfer station on both the Jr. and Sr. sides. 

  • Where is the parking lot?

    Deer Ridge Park is classified as a Neighbourhood Park, which is meant to serve residents within a walking radius. However, there will be ample street parking along the park frontage on both  Summerwind Drive & Gort Avenue.

  • Wondering if the trees and garden plants will be all native and be choices that will help restore biodiversity and expose people to more natural life?

    Thank you for the feedback. It is the intention that all proposed plantings be native, non-invasive, and appropriate to site conditions. There will be pockets of naturalized lawns (e.g. native wildflowers and pollinator gardens) to support biodiversity, foster healthy habitats, and promote sustainable horticulture practices.

  • I would like confirmation that all the planting, with the exception of turf grass, be native to our Carolinian Eco zone. The county must set an example. This is a great opportunity to help our local Eco system.

  • Paris needs a well maintained Tennis Court that is publicly available at no cost.

    Thank you for your feedback.  Please note, the County of Brant has plans to construct multi-court pickleball/ tennis courts at a large destination park in Paris in a few years.
