Council approved the Sport Facility Allocation Policy, May 2025
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Sport Facility Allocation Policy review. Your feedback helped shape updates that will guide how County recreation spaces are shared and scheduled across our community.
County Council approved the updated Sport Facility Allocation Policy in May 2025. This policy helps staff manage bookings and ensure fair access to arenas, sports fields, ball diamonds, gymnasiums, and other recreation spaces across the County.
Community engagement
Public input played an important role in the review.
Community members shared their feedback through an Engage Brant survey and discussions with sport user groups. The survey received 158 responses and highlighted strong community interest in fair access to facilities and prioritizing local users.
Participants also emphasized the need for transparency in how facility time is assigned and the importance of planning for future recreation demand.
What has changed
The updated policy introduces several improvements to help make the process clearer and more consistent.
Key updates include:
- Clearer definitions and policy language to help sport groups understand the process
- Alignment with the County Community Partnership Policy
- A standardized scoring tool to help staff resolve scheduling conflicts in a fair and transparent way
- Continued emphasis on supporting opportunities for County of Brant residents and youth programs
The policy continues to guide how staff allocate time in County recreation facilities while supporting fair access and responsible facility management.

Why this matters
Recreation facilities are important community spaces. They support youth programs, recreational leagues, competitive sports, and community events.
The updated policy helps ensure these spaces are shared fairly, used efficiently, and remain accessible to residents as the County continues to grow.
This project is now complete. Thank you to everyone that participated and shared their feedback!
