Scotland Multi-road Reconstruction

The County of Brant is planning the next phases of road reconstruction in the community of Scotland. This multi-year project will replace aging infrastructure, improve road conditions and drainage, and help maintain safety and mobility throughout the community.

What work is planned?

Depending on the street and phase of construction, improvements may include:

  • New road surfaces and curbs
  • New storm sewers to improve drainage
  • New and improved sidewalks and crosswalks
  • Traffic calming measures to help improve safety

The work will take place in phases over several years.

Phase 1:
Completed in 2025
Phase 2:
2027 to the end of 2028
Phase 3:
2029 to the end of 2030

  • Church Street West, from Augustus Street to Simcoe Street
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback during Phase 1. Your input helped shape the final design for the Church Street West reconstruction and provided valuable insight as we continue planning improvements in Scotland.
Phase 2 is subject to the outcome of the Master Environmental Servicing Plan and is expected to include:

  • Queen Street South
  • Elgin Street
  • Church Street East
  • Brant Street
  • Marcus Street

Phase 3 is expected to include:

  • Queen Street North
  • Isaac Street
  • Whitney Street
  • Church Street West, from Maple Avenue to Augustus Street

Why is this work needed?

Reconstructing these roads will help address aging infrastructure and support the long-term safety and accessibility of the community.

The improvements will help:

  • Maintain safety and create smoother roads
  • Provide safer and more accessible routes for people walking or using mobility devices
  • Improve drainage and reduce pooling water and ice
  • Reduce the risk of street and basement flooding
  • Reduce the need for ongoing road repairs

Before plans for Phase 2 are finalized, the County will host a Public Open House later this fall.

The Open House will give you an opportunity to learn about the proposed work, ask questions, speak with the project team and provide input. Just as community feedback helped inform Phase 1, your input will help the project team as plans for Phase 2 are developed.

  • What is meant by traffic calming measures? Will there be speed bumps? I live in Scot court. What measures will be taken to ensure access for myself and others will always be maintained throughout the year.

    Shelly asked 13 days ago

Thank you for your questions. Traffic calming measures could include a number of different strategies, including speed bumps/cushions, curbing, curb bump-outs, pavement markings, digital speed signs or other signage. If traffic calming is recommended for a particular road, we will aim to incorporate the most appropriate approach for that location.

Contractors will be required to maintain safe access to homes throughout construction. There will be times when they will be working directly in front of a driveway that will impact access for a short duration, but this will be communicated to the owner ahead of time so they can make appropriate arrangements.

    We hope this helps!

  • Why is Scot court not included in phase 2? The roadway holds substantial water during and after storms at the base of driveways , it does not flow properly into the ditches and the drainage ditches need to be regraded to promote water flow to the CBs at the corner of Scot and Brant st.

    Thank you for your feedback.

Our current phasing plan was developed based on current road conditions and drainage needs, addressing the higher needs areas first. Drainage issues haven’t been observed by staff so far, but we will plan to investigate further during the upcoming wet weather this fall. If needed, we can adjust the overall phasing plan.

    We hope this helps!
