The work is planned to be completed in two phases:
Phase 1 - Market Street in June 2022 - 2023
Phase 2 - Broadway Street in 2022-2023
Update for Market Street: The contractor will finish work between Capron Street and Wellington Street before the end of December. They will return in the spring to complete the final block between Wellington Street and Silver Street, and also complete boulevard restoration and final paving on the entire project.
The next phase of work planned for 2023 will include tunneling under the CN tracks at railway street to install storm sewer, watermain and sanitary sewer. The storm sewer outlet channel from Broadway Street to the Nith River will also be completed in 2023.
The third phase is planned for 2024 and will include sewer and watermain replacements and full road reconstruction along the full lengths of Broadway Street West and West River Street.

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.
I echo the comments by RickOBrien and the question raised by Nicole.
I find turning from Broadway on to Capron at the railroad tracks I often have to accelerate quickly as the cars coming up Broadway are often "flying" up over the tracks. It is a terrible blind corner. I have the same experience turning off of Capron on to Market St.
I would love to see Broadway from the tracks, south toward downtown made more pedestrian friendly: sidewalks and good lighting. I often have to drive along that stretch when it is dark and I often find "pedestrians come out of nowhere" as the are walking on the side of the road, often wearing dark clothes in poor or no lighting. I am often "paranoid" that I am going to strike a pedestrian given the poor lighting and lack of sidewalks as pedestrians walk along the road. I find myself thinking " as the driver I will be blamed" but it is a terrible stretch for pedestrians.
As more people seem to use Market/Broadway as a thoroughfare in order to get around the heavy traffic on Grand River N I see the need for improvements along this corridor. I expect there has been and, will continue to be, an increased volume of traffic: a volume for which the current layout and conditions are not designed.
I have also noticed a fair amount of pedestrian traffic around Wright's Variety/Tito's pizza. A regulated crossing/4 way stop at that corner with a pedestrian crossing would be an improved safety measure. At this point it is a "free for all" as there is nowhere to cross that is marked as such.

A couple of issues come to mind right away.
Lots of people use Wright's Variety. Many are on foot from Banfield and Capron Streets. You more or less have to jaywalk to cross Market Street from east to west. There are too many cars turning at Capron and cars coming over the tracks from the south are often going too fast to see you in time. An all-way stop at Market and Spruce Streets with well-marked pedestrian crossings would be appreciated.
The other issue concerns traffic when the railway barriers are down. Southbound traffic immediately starts to take the Banfield Street detour. The road needs to be wider at the crossing with a left-turn lane for southbound vehicles turning east onto Capron Street. If there are more than a couple of cars waiting at the railway crossing, southbound cars start crossing into the northbound lane of Market to turn left onto Capron. I must admit, I've done it a few times myself.
