Why is the Firearms Bylaw being updated?

Most of the proposed additions are already prohibited based on zoning (e.g., residential areas). The updated maps will include new subdivisions, parks, trails, and other high-activity areas a well as update proximity making restrictions clearer and easier to understand.

Does this update change where I can hunt or shoot on my own property?

If your property is zoned agricultural or located outside the proposed "No Discharge" zones, this update may not affect you. However, all firearm use must still follow applicable laws, including safety setbacks and property owner permission.

Are bows included in this bylaw?

Yes. The bylaw also regulates the discharge of bows (including compound bows and crossbows). Some exceptions apply for target practice and hunting on private property under specific conditions.

When will the bylaw be finalized?

After the public consultation period closes on October 24, County staff will review all feedback and prepare recommendations for Council’s consideration in December 2025.
