The County of Brant is developing its Community Safety and Well-being plan as required by the new legislative amendments to the Police Services Act. This will be undertaken in a collaborative manner through an advisory committee comprised of representation from Police and local service providers including health/mental health, education, community/social services and children/youth services, community partners and community members.

The process to develop the plan will include:

  • Identification of priority areas to address community needs
  • Identification of existing programs and services that support community safety and well-being
  • Community engagement to identify the assets, gaps and risks that exist in the County of Brant
  • Action planning to address priority areas

The goal of the plan is to support and promote sustainable communities where everyone feels safe, has a sense of belonging, access to services and where individuals and families are able to meet their education, health care, food, housing, income, social and cultural needs.

The Community Safety & Well-being Advisory Committee and community partners have identified six local priorities for further investigation and collaboration. Community and service provider engagement will focus on more detailed feedback to inform desired outcomes and strategies within:

  • Mental Health & Addictions
  • Youth services
  • Seniors services
  • Housing
  • Family services
  • Diversity Awareness

The Province has provided a framework that supports the mandatory legislative requirements. This framework outlines the tasks, roles and timelines that are required for the County of Brant to take in order to be in compliance with the new legislation.
