Community Energy Plan

Energy is part of everyday life. It moves us where we need to go, heats and cools our homes and buildings, powers our workplaces and farms, and keeps us connected.

The County of Brant is developing a Community Energy Plan to better understand how energy is currently used, supplied and planned for across our community and County operations. The Plan will identify practical opportunities to improve energy efficiency, conserve energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and plan for our future energy needs.

As part of this work, a Renewable Energy Roadmap will also be created that will explore renewable and low carbon energy opportunities that may be suitable for Brant.

Start here: The more you know!

There’s a lot to consider when planning for our energy future, and you don’t need to be an energy expert to take part.

From October 2026 through January 2027, we’ll share easy-to-understand information about how energy works in Brant, how our community uses energy, and some of the choices and considerations involved in planning for the future.

Explore the information below, follow along as we add new topics, and maybe learn something you didn’t know about energy in Brant!

FAQs

Then, starting in February 2027, it will be your turn to weigh in. We’ll invite residents, businesses, farms, community organizations and other stakeholders to share their priorities, experiences, challenges and ideas.

Your input will help inform the Community Energy Plan, and we’ll report back on what we heard and how your feedback informed the final plan.

Building on work already underway

The Community Energy Plan builds on the County of Brant Climate Action Plan, approved by Council in November 2024, and the community engagement completed through its development.

Rather than repeating previous engagement, this project will take a closer look at energy use, energy efficiency, renewable and low carbon energy opportunities, and potential barriers to action.

Previous community input will provide important context as we gather the additional information needed for more detailed energy planning.

What happens and when

Engagement for this project will take place in phases.
