Filming Policy review

The County created the current Filming Policy (CM-2024-03) in 2024. The policy guides how filming companies operate in small communities. It includes rules for notifications, traffic and parking controls, filming hours, noise limits, road access, and support for residents and businesses.

It has been one year since the policy came into effect and we want to know more about your experiences with filming in the County of Brant since the creation of the policy. Your feedback will help determine if the policy needs updates and what the updates may be.

  • Thank you for participating! Here's what we heard and what's next

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on filming in the County of Brant. After one full year since with the Filming Policy was put in place, the County invited residents and businesses to share their experiences to help determine whether the policy is working as intended and where improvements may be needed. The feedback gathered will help inform potential updates to the policy and related practices, with the goal of balancing community well-being with continued economic opportunity.

To raise awareness and encourage participation we mailed letters with a printed survey to neighbourhoods in Paris that have most recently experienced filming. Print advertisements were placed in the Paris Independent and Ayr News and social media advertisements targeted County residents. Direct emails were sent to Brant News and Engage Brant subscribers, posters advertising the project were displayed in County facilities, and weekly posts were shared on County social media channels from January 5 to January 30, 2026.

During the engagement period, the Engage Brant project webpage received over 1,000 visits and a total of 61 surveys were submitted, including two printed copies. The Filming Policy document was viewed more than 100 times, and one comment was submitted through the online tool. These metrics indicate that residents not only viewed the information provided but also took time to review the policy and shared informed feedback.

    What we heard

    • Many people support future filming in the County.
    • People value filming because it brings spending to local businesses and builds community pride.
    • The most common challenges relate to traffic, road closures, and parking.
    • People want to keep access to homes, driveways, and key routes during filming.
    • Some people did not receive filming notices. When notices were received, most people said they were clear.
    • People want better communication about filming that reaches you in more ways, not only through social media.
    • People want clear rules for timing, noise, and lighting near homes.
    • People want strong oversight, so filming rules are followed.
